How To Create The Perfect "Table" for Your Tiny Living Room
"If you love the idea of adding an ornate coffee table or desk to your living room but don't have the space, consider this solution from Home Made Simple designer Didiayer Snyder. By drawing and painting table legs beneath a floating shelf, you get the benefit of extra storage on a whole new and innovative level.
To get started, use a pencil and stencil to draw a phantom table underneath an installed floating shelf (be sure to remove the shelf before painting). Didiayer chose an elegant table pattern stencil that she found online. Next, choose a high gloss paint in a color that pops off the wall. The phantom table and floating shelf will both need to be painted for the effect to work. This is a great opportunity to use a beautiful neutral that will fit into your home while also making a statement.
Once you begin painting, exercise careful brush strokes, starting from the center of the stenciled area and working your way out to the edges. This particular task has the bonus of being an activity the entire family can participate in and enjoy together. It is important to keep in mind that you want to use as little paint as possible for an even coat of paint. However, if you prefer a thicker coat, you can always build up to the desired look. Once you have finished painting, simply let it dry, hang the shelf, and stand back and admire your work."
